Please Read And Spread The Word...

Dear Friends,

2007 has started off on a poweful note for RFTS . There are many exciting efforts underway and we want to make sure you are aware of them. Also, you can now submit your email address directly at www.reachingforthestars.org and be automatically included in our ongoing email list. Please pass the word to you family members and friends.

Mark your calendar...

RFTS would love for you to join us at the CDC for the 1st Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day on March 21st. We are honored that the CDC Department of Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities has invited us to Co-Sponsor this inaugural event with them. The event will run from 10am until 2pm and cover a variety of important topics.

Please view the invitation and RSVP if you would like to attend.

Update on Washington...

We are in Washington this week meeting with many different lawmakers to advocate for federally funded, national Cerebral Palsy research, as well as working to establish a National Cerebral Palsy Day. The success of this effort is entirely dependent on parent involvement from around the country. History shows that lawmakers will listen if parents (constituents) are willing to speak up, write letters, email and fax to let their lawmakers know this is important.

As Congressional budget deliberations are happening NOW, it is more important than ever to let your elected officials know CP research is important to you. The more letters, emails, faxes that are received this month , the better the chance that national CP surveillance will become a reality.

Please feel free to use the main points in our DC Fact Sheet in your emails and letters. Please speak up. It will only take a minute or two but will make a world of difference for the hundreds of thousands of children with Cerebral Palsy.

Summer Cerebral Palsy Conference...

The 4rd Annual Cerebral Palsy Parent Conference “Building The Road To Independence” jointly sponsored by RFTS, Inc. and Washington University School of Medicine will be held August 3rd - 4th, 2007 in St. Louis, Missouri. Course co-chairs are Dr. Janice Brunstrom, Dr. Michael Noetzel, Anna Marie Champion and Cynthia Frisina Gray.

We'll be posting more information about the conference on our website in the coming months. A variety of new and exciting topics will be featured including stem cell research, intensive therapy, educational issues and deep brain stimulation.

1st annual "Reaching For The Stars - A Benefit For Children With Cerebral Palsy"...

We had a very special evening on February 10th, 2007 for the 1st annual "Reaching For The Stars - A Benefit For Children With Cerebral Palsy" fundraiser and silent auction was held at the Piedmont Room in Atlanta, Georgia .

The generosity and hard work of Ed and Maurie Drambel (parents to son, John) and Seale and David Lindsay made this event a reality. We greatly appreciate their efforts because the reality is without proper funding RFTS won’t be able to continue the mission of research advocacy. Over $40,000 was raised with a night filled with motivational speeches and hope. During this event we also presented two awards. The 2007 RFTS Outstanding Family Volunteer Award was presented to Ed and Maurie Drambel in recognition of their efforts on behalf of RFTS. We also presented the 2007 RFTS Outstanding Medical Advisory Board Contribution Award to Dr. Janice Brunstrom in recognition of Dr. Brunstrom's tireless efforts on behalf of children with cerebral palsy and her countless hours spent to help RFTS successfully advocate for these children. Many thanks to both Dr. Brunstrom and the Drambel Family.

Contributions...

What if RFTS, Inc. earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Well, now we can!

GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it's powered by Yahoo!, so you get great search results.

Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter RFTS, Inc. (or Reaching For The Stars. A Foundation of Hope For Children With Cerebral Palsy) as the charity you want to support. Just 500 of us searching four times a day will raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime out of their own pockets!

Be sure to spread the word!

Please join us on our journey of hope and change. Thank you!

All the best to you and your family in the coming holiday season.
